Sports ball Celebrations

The annual Sports Ball was held on 27th March at the Royal National Hotel. This is an event held at the end of the season and provides an occasion for the terrific sporting achievement within RUMS to be celebrated, as well as a fantastic social occasion for all sports participants. As always, it was a hugely popular event with over 200 people attending, including representatives from all RUMS sports teams as well as the MDs.

After many photographs and a sit down meal, the awards were presented with the help of Dr Dilworth. Firstly, full colours, half colours and sports commendations were awarded, recognising the high levels of ability and commitment of individuals within their sports. The male and female Freshers of the Year were announced as Dominic Blauth-Muszkowski and Beth Jones respectively and the Sports Personality of the Year award went to Helena Waggett, a netball final year who has shown exceptional commitment to the club throughout her six years as a member. Finally, the highly anticipated RUMS Sports Team of the Year was awarded to RUMS RFC, our rugby club, who have had outstanding achievements this year, including winning the UH Challenge Cup for the first time in 128 years.

The remainder of the evening was spent by most people on the dance floor where there was lots of laughter, dancing and socialising with people from the various teams.

Overall, Sports Ball was an enormous success. Congratulations go to all those who received awards, as well as everyone who has participated in RUMS Sport this year.
