As part of my mission to make RUMS more relevant and more accountable to the student body, I am starting a series of blog posts that will continue throughout the year to keep you up to date on what the RUMS Executive have been doing!
This week marked the start of the year for the clinical years. As usual, a large number of transfers have joined us from Oxbridge – always very exciting. On Friday, the RUMS Welfare team held a clinical mum’s and dad’s event primarily for the transfers but also for the other students entering fourth year. It was a successful event and it was really great to see lots of fifth years coming down to help out. Furthermore, the RUMS Sport year has kicked off with the Richmond Half Marathon – race report to follow soon!
As the countdown continues to the arrival of the new freshers, life for the RUMS Exec gets busier and busier. With quite a small committee it can be a challenge to successfully organise such a jam packed program. Nevertheless, tickets are selling well and the entire Fresher’s Fortnight has attracted significant sponsorship from companies such as Wesleyan, The MDU and The MPS. This money is invested back into RUMS and goes towards subsidising events such as Sports Ball, Winter Ball and Finalists Ball. Another exciting development is the progression of the RUMS Review. There are a few more hurdles to negotiate but I am confident that Rebecca and her team will be able to publish the inaugural edition in mid-October. She is still looking for people to get involved so if you are interested please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
As always, if you have any suggestions / comments / questions please feel free to email me (email@example.com)!
