Welcome to UCL! We are UCL Union Medical Society (UCLU MedSoc) and we work together with RUMS to ensure that you get the most out of your time here at UCL Medical School. You will be entering one of the most diverse and interesting professions, so we are here to give you an insight into the opportunities available to you as a medical student and beyond.
We hold weekly events with speakers from across the medical profession, with topics on everything from ‘Obstetrics through the Ages’ to ‘Smartphones not Stethoscopes: the Future of Health’. Our 17 sub-sections provide a broad scope for you to get involved in any medical specialty of your interest. Our sub-sections include: Anaesthetics and Intensive Care; Debating; Education; Enterprise and Innovation; General and Internal Medicine; General Practice; Global Health; Infectious Diseases; Neurology; O&G; Oncology; Orthopaedics; Paediatrics; Psychiatry; Radiology; Research; and Sports and Exercise Medicine.
We also provide quality educational events to supplement the five core years of the MBBS program, from tutorials to 60 minute revision lectures. We are thrilled to have the guidance and support of our Patron, Professor Jane Dacre, new President of the Royal College of Physicians.
We also host our own annual national medical student careers conference, the InspireMEdicine conference, consisting of a range of talks, specialty workshops and competitions delivered by high profile doctors, such as Professor Jane Dacre, Professor Mike Pringle, President of the Royal College of General Practitioners, and Dr Christian Jessen, UCLMS alumni and presenter of Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies.
Look out for us at the RUMS and UCLU Freshers’ Fairs or find out more about us and our most recent events on our website.
