RUMS Boat Club

11720674_10206302461273433_1903406213_nRUMSBC has gone from strength to strength with much success on the Tideway every year. RUMSBC is one of the largest sports clubs within UCL medical school with around 100 members. Rowing from the University of London boat house in Chiswick, the club competes in events organised by the United Hospitals (UH), competing against other medical schools and the Veterinary college based in London. 11721390_10206302454033252_1191919966_nAs well as fielding three male and three female eights in these events, our oarsmen regularly compete in the British University Championships and have competed for both UH andother clubs at Henley Royal Regatta. RUMSBC are the first ever and current UH Champions, a title which we won’t be relinquishing any time soon, after gathering the most points in UH events this year.11720535_10206302442912974_301804661_n

Most of our rowers start out in the novice crews; RUMSBC being one of the few RUMS clubs where you can start out the sport as a complete beginner and still climb into the best teams in the next year or so. The year starts with Fresher’s Day at the River, where freshers get the chance to paddle out on the water and integrate themselves into the club. 11721161_10206302448793121_52435489_nOver the next few months, they will find themselves competing in the likes ofCambridge Head, and the UH events like Novice Sprints and Allom Cup. This year, the Men’s novices even competed in the Head of the River, a brilliant event where they will be rowing on the same stretch as some serious British athletes.11741878_10206302451153180_1307877158_n

We also are lucky to welcome many school rowers into our first and second crews, who have also been getting stronger and stronger each year; W1, W2 and M2 all winning their UH Head categories. However, with all this winning, it’s just as well that RUMSBC have gathered a strongreputation for social events too. 10822467_10206302456433312_1715203852_nTwice a year we hold our own formal dinners and celebrate the various events and wins that have taken place, whilst this year as UH Captains, we shall be organising the main UH events after the fiercely competitive racing has taken place. Here at RUMSBC we work hard and play harder, and hope that any prospective members will help us stay at the top of our game as one of the strongest RUMS clubs.
