Spectrum is a volunteer-led registered charity that has been running for over 30 years. Our volunteers are all medical students based at UCL (University College London).
The charity reaches out to children with disabilities that live in the Camden area and their families. The aims of the charity are threefold:
- To provide a befriending service to children with special needs and to provide them with opportunities for adventure that they might not otherwise have
- To provide respite to the families of such children
- To provide medical students with the opportunity to spend time with children with special needs; to further their understanding of physical and mental illness and the impact of such illness on the lives of children and their families
Two student volunteers are linked to each child. Contact between volunteers and children takes place through frequent visits and outings, in addition to group trips and an annual residential trip.
